According to company spokesperson, Renee Rathke, Applied Technologies is completing the assembly of a full scale mock-up of a three-wheel electric two-seater car for a California based vehicle manufacturer. In light of today’s high energy costs and related environmental concerns, this type of product has the potential to reduce our country’s dependence on fossil based fuels.

Project Manager Michael Ankney indicates the project entailed developing a full scale Computer Aided Design representation of the exterior of the proposed vehicle. Then with the help of Toledo based Global Composite Technologies, Inc., owned by Charles Turney, the composite body was produced and assembled on to a rolling platform. Mr. Ankney could not disclose the customer for this project, or the intended purpose of the mock-up. The mock-up is scheduled to be shipped from the company’s headquarters in Maumee on Monday, June 16th.

Applied Technologies has over 20 years experience helping manufacturers bring their ideas to production. Company CEO Craig Winn spoke about the company’s transition from supporting traditional “Big Three” engineering projects to some more exciting programs with emerging transportation technologies:

“ATI has been able to redeploy the knowledge and talent developed over many years of automotive engineering to focus on supporting companies in other sectors who are rapidly responding to the myriad of technical challenges thrown at them by the changing global economy. We are working with defense contractors, manufacturers of heavy equipment, and with several firms who are developing vehicles based on alternative powertrain systems. Our experience with automotive powertrain, chassis and body design and development positions us well to help our new customers tackle the problems they face with integrating new propulsion systems in their products”.
